A Resin Far East Building
Service from JJ Design was fantastic. Payment was via PayPal invoice and the buildings shipped in next to no time (from Hong Kong to Scotland in 3 working days!!) and the packaging was very thorough indeed. As for the buildings - the superlatives are endless. Beautiful lightweight resin without a blemish. They come with detachable roofs for those who like to place figures inside. So, how to they paint? I undercoated the whole building in black. I do this by hand as it ensures a complete covering. The dry brushing of timbers was a series of browns/ochres. I ended up giving them a wash of black/red brown to darken them up a bit and then lined in the planking with the same black/red brown mix (of course, not as heavily watered down as used for the wash). The reasoning behind darkening the wood was to develop the contrast with the white washed walls. The walls weren’t dry brushed, but build up from a yellow ochre, through buff and finally white. After that it was time for the ground work. This was my usual technique of chocolate brown, orange brown, desert yellow and buff. Then I weather the walls in the same combo. The thatched roof was a base coat of Games Workshop Snakebite Leather followed by Vallejo Dark Flesh some light pink and finally buff. The remaining detail was then done e.g. timbers on the roof, log pile and stones on roofs. The whole thing took about a day, but a lot of that was time spent figuring out colour schemes and alot of trial and error. Next one should take considerably less time. Overall I’d highly recommend these buildings. The product and service represent excellent value for money at $28 each. Especially when, at the time I bought them, Sterling was trading at $1.85. |
